A blocking sheet, also called a backing sheet, faces each script page in the prompt book. The stage manager writes a number in the script at each moment of movement and records the matching blocking note, by number, on this sheet.
This version has thirty-plus numbered lines, a small ground plan for sketching positions and a notes column. The In cue, Page and Date fields at the bottom help when you need to find or update blocking quickly. Write in pencil: blocking changes constantly in rehearsal.
How to use this template
- 1Place one sheet facing each script page.
- 2As actors move, write a small number in the script at the exact word or moment.
- 3Record the movement next to the same number on the sheet, using your blocking key.
- 4Sketch positions on the mini ground plan for complicated stage pictures.
